Nice cream! Ice cream, but healthier! We can’t get enough of it! Everybody (health freaks and even junk food lovers) loves those pretty bowls with nice cream. Nice cream is perfect when you want a simple and healthy ice cream-like cold dish. It works well for you too if you have a sweet tooth because nice cream is also very delicious! You get the benefits of a yummy dessert without all the extra sugars. Nice cream is a great serve for kids, summer breakfasts and desserts and..nice cream is guilt free( if guilt bothers you)
Everywhere, especially on Instagram, I see these lovely bowls of mostly frozen banana with soy milk and other fruits that are turned into a vegan alternative for ice cream. Of course I wanted to make my own version so I used plantains! These kind of bananas are called ‘Bakbananen’ in Dutch and are very popular and grow in the country my parents were born: Surinam in South America. These tropical kind of bananas are actually considered a vegetable and are used for both sweet and savory dishes. For example: plantains are used in hearty winter soups or fried in a layer of batter with some cinnamon. I wanted to use plantains for my nice cream because I think they have much more flavor than the bananas we normally eat. I used the yellow ones. When these plantains are fully ripe and are very soft with a totally black skin, they can be eaten raw.
Besides the very delicious taste, plantains have a lot of other benefits too. Plantains fit in a good diet and healthy exercise plan because they have less sugars than the bananas we usually eat. Plantains are a great source of potassium, fibers, vitamins A, B6 and C. They boost your immune system, promote a healthy brain function and carry plenty of magnesium too. To learn more about how a plantain looks like and what you can do with it: I liked this link about plantains:
Still most importantly: These bananas, when ripe are insanely tasty and deliciously sweet in a nice way and the combination with coconut milk really makes this a very ‘nice cream’! I am happy I used this plantain as a twist to the nice creams you often see. I hope this very easy recipe with plantain excites you too! 😉
