Cinnamon Buns/Rolls with salted caramel bits! Sweet, cinnamon-y, firm like a bread but still soft like a cake and vegan!! Made with vegan butter and oat milk, these cinnamon buns can be served to all and it is a very easy and simple recipe for breakfast or dessert 😉
Last week my cousin who we call Tush made cinnamon buns for her colleagues and they have been on my to cook list for quite a while too. I guess it was a sign! Or maybe I was just hungry for buns because I like big buns and I cannot lie!
My cousin is a vegan so I was inspired to make vegan cinnamon buns too. Because I never made buns before, I looked for a basic vegan bun recipe. The first one I found was one of the Minimalist baker. Link: https://minimalistbaker.com/the-worlds-easiest-cinnamon-rolls/ Inspired by that simple recipe, I made my own delicious recipe by changing the ingredients for the buns and adding some. When you cook, you develop an own view on how a dish should look, taste and even feel like. You should always adapt it to your own taste if you feel like you want a different outcome.
First of all I have used oat milk because that is till date my favorite plant based milk. Instead of the sugar in the recipe, I have used a dark brown fine sugar and vanilla sugar that I also use in my cakes. I prefer the richer taste of the dark sugar and the color is also beautiful. I have added a bit more butter and milk for a softer dough and lastly, I wanted salted caramel bits in the buns just because I felt like it 😉
Making the dough and buns was so much fun. If I knew this before, I would have made them a long time ago. After the buns cooled down, they really tasted like a partly bread partly cake like dessert. Also, I really recommend the frosting because the buns aren’t that sweet. The frosting balances everything out perfectly. My sister’s boyfriend tried one and via text, my sis said he really wanted more. Too bad, I only sent him one haha! These rolls are a good excuse to get together with everybody though. I will definitely make them for the whole bunch of eaters.
